Framework Laptop 16 Gen 2 Debuts with RTX 5070

Framework has officially announced the second generation of its 16-inch Laptop 16, bringing major upgrades that focus on flexibility and power. The highlight of this release is the ability to swap out the graphics card within minutes, giving users the freedom to upgrade performance on the go.

The new Laptop 16 now supports the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070, which delivers 30–40% faster gaming performance compared to the AMD Radeon RX 7700S found in the first-gen model. For added versatility, the Radeon RX 7700S will also be offered as a separate module.

For those who prioritize portability over raw graphics power, Framework is offering an Expansion Bay Shell. This lighter option ditches the dedicated GPU, relying instead on the integrated graphics of the new Ryzen AI 300 series processors, including the 8-core Ryzen AI 7 350 and the 12-core Ryzen AI 9 HX 370.

The display has also been improved, with NVIDIA G-SYNC support enhancing smooth visuals on the 16-inch, 2560×1600 resolution panel with a 165Hz refresh rate. Memory and storage expansion remain a strong point, with two DDR5-5600 RAM slots supporting up to 96GB and two M.2 slots allowing up to 10TB of storage.

Another key upgrade is the 240W USB-C power adapter with USB-PD 3.1 support, ensuring stable power delivery to both CPU and GPU. The second-generation webcam, introduced with the Framework Laptop 13, also makes its way into this model.

Importantly, many of these upgrades—including the RTX 5070 module and new charger—will also be available for first-generation Laptop 16 owners, reinforcing Framework’s commitment to modular, sustainable computing.

The Framework Laptop 16 (Gen 2) is now open for pre-orders, available in both pre-assembled and DIY configurations, starting at $1,499.
