RTX 5060 Laptop Leak Shows Big GDDR7 Gains

The upcoming Nvidia RTX 5060 may still be under wraps, but early leaks are offering a promising glimpse into its potential—especially in laptops. Two upcoming models from Chinese brand Colorful have surfaced online, giving gamers a preview of what to expect from Nvidia’s next mid-range mobile GPU.

According to a report by VideoCardz, Colorful is preparing to release two gaming laptops: the iGame M15 Origo and the P15 Pro. Both are powered by Intel’s latest high-end mobile CPUs—the Ultra 9 285H and the Core i9-13900HX, respectively—and more interestingly, both feature the yet-to-be-launched RTX 5060 with 8GB of next-gen GDDR7 VRAM.

Leaked benchmark results using the OpenCL API put the M15 Origo at a score of 102,564, while the P15 Pro edges slightly higher at 109,431. While these results focus on compute rather than gaming performance (due to the lack of Vulkan benchmarks), the figures suggest roughly an 18% improvement over the RTX 4060. This performance bump appears to be driven in part by the shift from GDDR6 to GDDR7 memory, along with increased core counts.

Although some enthusiasts still argue that 8GB of VRAM isn’t enough for today’s most demanding games—especially poorly optimized PC titles—GDDR7’s faster bandwidth could help alleviate bottlenecks and make this configuration more viable, particularly for laptops aimed at 1080p and 1440p gaming.

There’s no official word yet from Colorful or Nvidia, so these figures should be taken with caution. However, with Nvidia’s DLSS 4 and advanced frame generation technologies likely to accompany the new GPUs, the RTX 5060 could become a compelling choice for budget-conscious gamers seeking strong performance without breaking the bank.

The desktop version of the RTX 5060 is still expected to outperform its mobile counterpart, as is standard. But if these early laptop results are any indication, Nvidia’s newest mid-range GPU may punch above expectations—assuming the pricing stays reasonable. Nvidia has previously announced a $1,099 starting price for systems featuring the RTX 5060, a figure that could set the tone for affordability in the next generation of gaming laptops.
