In the wake of Huawei’s MateBook Fold Ultimate announcement, new industry rumors suggest Amazon is entering the foldable laptop market.
Just a day after Huawei introduced its 18-inch foldable-screen laptop—the MateBook Fold Ultimate—reliable supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has reported that Amazon is developing a similar foldable laptop, potentially signaling a major step into premium computing hardware.
According to Kuo, Amazon’s foldable device is expected to enter mass production as early as late 2026 or 2027. While Amazon is best known for its Kindle e-readers, Fire tablets, and Echo smart devices, this move would mark its boldest foray into the competitive laptop space.
Racing Against Apple?
Interestingly, the timing pits Amazon against another tech titan rumored to be exploring foldable laptops—Apple. Kuo mentions Apple’s foldable-screen MacBook might not hit mass production until late 2027 or even 2028, giving Amazon a potential first-mover advantage in the category.
OS Still Unknown
While details about Amazon’s hardware and features remain under wraps, speculation is already mounting around the operating system. Will Amazon go with a Windows-based environment to appeal to mainstream laptop users, or repurpose its own Fire OS for a more customized experience? Apple’s decision between macOS and iPadOS for its own version is another lingering question in the industry.
As the foldable tech trend accelerates, Amazon’s entry could redefine consumer expectations in the evolving laptop landscape. With production still years away, further details are expected to emerge gradually over the coming months.
