Indian PC Market Grows 8.1% in Q1 2025

The Indian PC market recorded solid growth in the first quarter of 2025, with shipments reaching 3.3 million units—a significant 8.1% year-over-year (YoY) increase, according to the latest report from IDC.

Notebooks and Workstations Drive Market Expansion

The surge was primarily fueled by the notebook and workstation segments. Notebook shipments saw a 13.8% YoY rise, while workstations experienced an impressive 30% growth. Meanwhile, desktop shipments dipped slightly by 2.4%, showing a modest slowdown in that segment.

Premium notebooks under $1,000 grew by 8%, while AI-powered laptops led the innovation charge with a staggering 185% YoY growth, pointing to a shift in consumer and business preferences.

HP Maintains Market Leadership

HP continued to dominate the Indian PC landscape, capturing 29.1% of the total market share. The company solidified its leadership in the commercial segment with a 32.7% share and saw a 60.6% YoY growth in enterprise demand.

Other major brands also performed strongly:

  • Lenovo secured the second spot with an 18.9% share, witnessing 36.4% growth in consumer and 33.8% in commercial segments.
  • Dell maintained a 22% commercial market share, despite experiencing reduced shipments due to inventory corrections in the consumer sector.
  • Acer posted a notable 95.5% YoY growth in the consumer segment, holding a 15.4% market share.
  • ASUS rounded out the top five with a 6% share and an 8.6% YoY growth.

E-Commerce and Republic Day Sales Fuel Consumer Growth

A key driver behind the growth was the 8.9% YoY increase in the consumer segment, supported by strong Republic Day sales promotions and heavy March shipments across retail channels.

The e-commerce (e-tailing) channel showed exceptional strength with a 21.9% YoY growth, highlighting a continuing shift toward online purchases for both consumers and businesses.

Market Outlook Remains Cautiously Optimistic

IDC’s Bharath Shenoy noted that while high shipment volumes indicate positive market momentum, elevated channel inventory could pose challenges in upcoming quarters. Nonetheless, the Q1 performance paints a hopeful picture for India’s PC industry in 2025.
