Razer Core X V2 eGPU with Thunderbolt 5 Launched

Razer has unveiled the Core X V2, a high-performance external GPU (eGPU) enclosure designed to bring desktop-class graphics power to portable laptops. As the company’s first eGPU to support Thunderbolt 5, the Core X V2 is ideal for gamers and creators seeking a serious performance boost without sacrificing mobility.

Turn Any Laptop into a Gaming Beast

The Core X V2 is built to deliver next-level graphics processing to thin-and-light laptops. It targets users who value productivity and battery life but want to switch to high-performance gaming or content creation when needed. By connecting via Thunderbolt 5, the Core X V2 offers rapid data transfer and low-latency responsiveness.

“Designed for flexibility and raw power, this plug-and-play upgrade transforms your ultraportable device into a desktop-class workstation,” Razer said in a press release.

Powerful and Customizable Design

Housed in a ventilated steel chassis, the Core X V2 includes a built-in 120mm fan that automatically adjusts speed based on workload. For advanced users, fan curves can be fine-tuned using Razer’s Synapse software.

Inside, the enclosure supports full-size graphics cards up to four slots wide, with official compatibility listed for most NVIDIA GeForce and AMD Radeon GPUs. While Intel Arc support isn’t guaranteed, it may still function depending on the configuration.

Unlike the previous generation, the Core X V2 does not include a built-in power supply. Instead, users can install their own full-size ATX PSU, offering greater flexibility and upgrade potential.

Wide Compatibility with Modern Laptops

In terms of connectivity, the Core X V2 works with Thunderbolt 5 and 4 laptops, and even supports certain USB4 devices such as handheld gaming consoles. This broadens its appeal across both professional and enthusiast markets.

The Core X V2 will be priced at $349.99, with availability expected soon.

Razer Also Debuts Powerful Thunderbolt 5 Dock

Alongside the Core X V2, Razer introduced a new Thunderbolt 5 dock designed for multi-device workflows. The dock supports three 4K displays at 120Hz, offers up to 8TB SSD storage via an M.2 slot, and delivers up to 140W of laptop charging with its 250W power adapter.

Port options include:

  • 1x Thunderbolt 5 upstream
  • 1x Thunderbolt 5 downstream
  • 2x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A
  • 1x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C
  • UHS-II SD card reader
  • 3.5mm combo jack with 7.1 surround support
  • 1Gbps Ethernet

Available now, the Thunderbolt 5 Dock is priced at $399.99 (Chroma) and $389.99 (Mercury White). Razer’s Thunderbolt 4 Dock is currently discounted on Amazon for $289.99.
