In a whimsical crossover few saw coming, Microsoft has released a limited-edition Surface Laptop dubbed the “Smurface Edition,” celebrating the release of the new Smurfs movie.
This unique collaboration blends high-performance hardware with childhood nostalgia, featuring four iconic Smurf characters laser-etched onto the lid of the 13-inch Surface Laptop. Only 100 units of the Smurface Edition have been made, making it an instant collector’s item for fans of both tech and the beloved blue creatures.
A Techy Tribute to Smurfs
The Smurface was first teased via Microsoft’s official @surface Instagram account on July 7, just ahead of the new Smurfs film premiere on July 18. It became available the same day as a retailer-exclusive on Amazon. As of July 29, 87 units remained, showing a steady interest in the product.
Alongside the purchase option, Microsoft is also giving users a chance to win one through the Microsoft Rewards program, where participants earn points by using Bing, playing games, or shopping on the Microsoft Store. This sweepstakes ends August 14.
What’s Inside the Smurface?
Despite the novelty exterior, the internals remain unchanged from Microsoft’s standard 13-inch Surface Laptop released in May 2025. Key specs include:
- Snapdragon X Plus processor (8-core)
- 13-inch 1920 x 1280 touchscreen (60Hz)
- 16GB RAM and 512GB UFS storage
- Battery life rated at 23 hours
- Retail price: $999.99
Although it falls slightly behind the more premium 13.8-inch Surface Laptop 7 in terms of performance, the Smurface boasts better battery life and an irresistibly fun aesthetic.
Smurfy or Smurfnado?
While the Smurface has drawn attention for its quirky appeal, the collaboration has raised some humorous questions online: Do Smurfs use Windows? Does their village have Wi-Fi? Is there a Copilot+ PC in the Smurf universe? Microsoft has yet to clarify.
For now, the Smurface stands as a bold, limited-edition blend of pop culture and practical tech — perfect for fans looking to add a splash of blue to their digital lives.
