Samsung has officially started laptop production at its Greater Noida facility, marking a new milestone in its Indian operations. The move expands the company’s existing manufacturing portfolio, which already includes smartphones, tablets, feature phones, and wearables.
Government Backs Samsung’s Expansion
Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently met with Samsung Southwest Asia President and CEO JB Park, along with Corporate Vice President SP Chun. After the meeting, Vaishnaw emphasized Samsung’s growing role in India, stating that the company is “expanding manufacturing of advanced technology devices in Bharat, powered by talent and innovation.”
This support underscores the government’s push to strengthen domestic electronics manufacturing under the “Make in India” initiative.

Long-Term Strategy Behind Greater Noida Plant
The Greater Noida plant, established in 1996, was among India’s earliest global electronics manufacturing hubs. Earlier this year, TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile eXperience (MX) Business at Samsung Electronics, confirmed that preparations for laptop production were already underway. This demonstrates Samsung’s long-term vision to diversify its Indian production lines.
Strengthening India’s Tech Ecosystem
India is home to Samsung’s second-largest mobile phone manufacturing unit worldwide and serves as the company’s second-biggest export hub for handsets after Apple. Despite its dominance in smartphones—ranking second in both value and volume share, according to Counterpoint Research—Samsung has yet to make a significant impact in the laptop market.
